History

The Umatilla Tribe or The Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation, is actually comprised of three different tribes brought together by a Treaty with the U.S. Government in 1855. These three tribes are the the Cayuse Tribe, the Umatilla Tribe and the Walla Walla Tribe, the tribes were established as one single Government in 1949, when they all accepted the same Constitution and By-laws. The tribe now has around 2,600 members and is situated in Northeastern Oregon. The Tribe has accomplished great things in the last thirty years both economically and politically, far more than in any other time since the treaty in 1855.
