The Umatilla Tribe has many different programs to help their children succeed. It all starts out with a Head Start program. The program was started in 1994 and now serves 40 students. They encourage volunteering from parents in the schools, where they can work as teacher aids, and tutors to the students. There is a language program that is designed to reestablish and preserve the three natural languages spoken by the tribes. An after school education program for K - 5 helps children by integrating educational, cultural and recreational activities, and also a recreational program for K- Adults. There is also the option of summer school, in a six-week course of three class hours a day, where high school credits can be earned.
